Economy Changes Explained

This update brings some economy-related changes that may or may not piss you off.
All the changes in this update are up for debate, but these are changes I wanted to make and see how people react to them.

I think these changes will help the economy overall. I hated the exchange rate of 6 Devolved keys to Valve keys and these changes should make keys specifically worth more over time.
There are already over 1,000 keys so this should decrease the amount of keys in circulation over time. Especially after the next update when crates will be opened ten-fold.
Reclaimed metal will also be a bit more useful, because refined metal is now a bit harder to craft.

Also, after some upcoming updates, people will be spending a lot more DevBucks because of some new features being added. If they don't spend any, they'll be missing out big time.

Update also includes two small jihad rare crates, tiers, and a good bit of bugfixes/feature adjustments thrown in as well.

Rare crates that people payed for will be coming in the next week - and a bunch of other stuff too!
I mainly wanted to get these economy changes in to see what you guys think.


Update Log

Economy Related:
  • Key prices have now been increased to $2.50 Wallet Cash to match Valve's price and make them a bit less affordable
  • Crafting refined metal now requires two of the same exact item no matter what. You can no longer just mash 2 random common crates together. This makes reclaimed metal more useful.
  • Keys are now much harder to craft and now require 5 Refined Metal Stacks. It may seem like a lot, but there are 496 Refined Metal Stacks and 722 Refined Metal in existence. Not to mention the already-existing 1,000 Metal Keys. Besides, the time and items you put into crafting Metal Keys should be worth the $2.50 stock price.

The Rest:
  • Added two small jihad rare crates. Very few of these will drop. I split them into 2 crates so that it'd even out the rarity. Yeah jihads are lame but I wanted to add a fast crate. Quality jihads though!
  • Added on to most of the current tiers (for higher level/rich people)
  • Added SprayMesh to replace our sprays system. We've long since disabled sv_allowupload (hence sprays not working for some)
  • You can now craft some fun rounds together as suggested here. Request more if you want. Will be optimizing DM rounds this week as well.
  • Added "!votekick name" for platinum members (only usable when there is no staff on. DO NOT ABUSE THIS.)
  • Fixed the map pot portion of the lottery system. The roughly 100k that was in there will go into a new website lottery system in the next week.
  • Fixed donut model/texture errors (got a new model made)
  • Fixed texture error with spoon/fork/butterknife/etc (hopefully, might need to get models remade)
  • You no longer receive XP/DevBucks for rating a map. You still get the stat though. We might wipe current votes as well.
  • The persistence has been removed from Spec RP. Stuff no longer saves on the map forever. Spec RP will be turning more into an optimized DM/Drug dealing mode soon.
  • 2D World has now been officially deleted. Rest in peace, it was a fun little project.

Make sure they are from after this update though because some should be fixed now.

To anybody having problems with the new spray system type: SprayMesh_Help in console and it will bring up the basic information for the new sprays. you can also now spray youtube videos

If you're going to post feedback make sure it's actually useful. Cakebetty's post is an example of a bad post in this thread.

I think the key price was a good idea as that really does even out transactions.
The only thing I see wrong is that it will really change up the market for a while to adjust to these changes.
Other than that I think its all wonderful, good job jack.

alright so if im following:
keys are more expensive to buy outright (with wallet)
harder to craft as you must have matching crates
and now you need 5 refined metal stacks not 4

but Im assuming the crate drops are the same (random?)
and chances to unlock rare stuff is still mathematically low chance?

crate drops are basically the same. little was adjusted probably unnoticable.

chances to unlock rare stuff.... depends on the crate itself... the jihad crate items have a 1 in 3 chance (they are all even rarity)
the system for item rarity hasn't change if that's what you mean. opening a crate will be the same difficulty as it was before.

the reason the jihad crate is limited is because we don't have very many actually rare jihads (low amount that exist)
they are split into two crates with three jihads each so that the amount that drop is evened out

hope that makes sense

edit: the main thing here is our economy is kind of bad. 6 metal keys to 1 valve key? screw that.
over the next couple weeks I am going to release updates where people consume keys, devbucks in new ways, and getting trading going again.
keys need more meaning. if you have any suggestions to the changes feel free to post them.

I'm a litle bummed 2D world got deleted for good. Its secret continued existence made it a great cash cow...

Lol, I can't wait for people to bitch about keys getting hard to craft, I'm actually glad this happened because during my winter break I crafted over 60 keys in 2 weeks and the economy was inflated as all hell.

Another small silly thing was added

  • New "!voice" chat command for Platinum Members. Allows you to use text to speech. Example "!voice Hello there".
    You can also change the language using the 2 letter language code like so: "!voice [fr] Bonjour!" or "!voice [sp] hola como estas"
    This uses Google Translate's API, but after using it a lot Google throttles/blocks it for a few minutes. While Google throttles it, it'll use a backup DECTalk voice provided by Peniscorp called DICKTalk instead.

Plan on adding two more features to Platinum later today as well. They also have !votekick now for when staff aren't on.

I would like to see the positive feedback and from whom it comes from. Yeah you might want to copy and paste stuff from popular games but that kinda ruins the feeling of being one of a kind to me... As for the crate situation you say they could make a key in 2 hours now it could take more than 20 hours if you dont trade crates so I dont really see much of a trade off, yes I know you want more action in the economy but when you have the rich leeches in the market it doesnt make it super worthwhile for those that dont dedicate hours a day to the server.

yeah it usually took me longer than 2 hours except on double crate Sunday maybe

the needing 2 types of the same crate thing was a good move
but maybe needing 5 refined stack is a bit too much
crafting will still be the #1 way to get keys since not everyone like paying real money or sellling on the market

Jackool did say keys and such will have other uses soon so well see I suppose
but really this just makes the grind harder atm

Harder to gets keys=keys used less often and only used on rare stuff (for now)

This rang so true that I had to smile since if rarity increases so does hoarding of said item so less keys will be used making jacks whole update seem kind of pointless...

I mean if keys cost 15k like the jews want to sell it for then no one would use it on crates that cost 700 that may have an item worth 2k in it.

also I cant craft low grav+ dm together


lastly I think you should put the spraymesh commands into the settings menu GUI
