I've wanted to switch to Linux for a couple of reasons, and the codebase seems to work smoothly on Linux so far. So now it's time for a stress test!
Fun fact: Our Teamspeak and Website already use Linux.

Server working better is a possibility, go read the last 2 paragraphs here (from our server host)

Not to mention Linux runs a lot of other things faster. The website and teamspeak are Linux already. Plus Linux has a much better firewall.

This may or may not be a dumb question, but do I have to be playing on Linux to join? If so, do I have to purchase gmod again or does it work cross platform? I'm considering using ubuntu for some games especially Minecraft, as oddly enough the opengl works way better than in windows for unknown reasons.

You would not need Linux OS to join a Linux server, and gmod does work on Linux. It would be retarded to buy a new version for every OS, once you buy it you get all versions available on your steam account.(Windows and if available, OSX and Linux)

What it means is that the servers themselves will be hosted on a server running Linux instead of Windows.  You don't need to change a thing while playing, as connecting to a server has been cross-platform for god knows how long.

Yeah guys thanks for explaining it to me like I am five and not giving condescending and/or passive aggressive responses!

The cross platform thing is retarded, but if you buy an xbox game you have to buy again to play it on pc or ps3, so I was just curious.

See we all play on PC because it has batter games for one, greater capabilities secondly, and third, so we don't have to deal with that shit.

Don't get me wrong console have their place, being cheaply (somewhat) available to families and/or people looking for an easy way to game. You might also say because they seek that kind of community, but I think we can all say that's a moot point.
